Bloomberg: “Billionaire Scored 3,500% on Art.” FYI…71,000 Non-Billionaires Invest in Multimillion Dollar Art Here:
Joe Lewis sold four paintings at Sotheby's London just last week for a combined 3,500% return.
A single Francis Bacon self-portrait turned £364,500 in 1994 into £13.5 million.
This happened while the US lost 92,000 jobs in February, Brent crude hit $119, and the Dow, hovering new record highs, posted its worst week since April.
Of course, usually only the ultra wealthy can invest in multimillion dollar art.
For Lewis, it represents 12.5% of his $8.8 billion fortune.
But now, 70,819 everyday investors have allocated $1.3 billion fractionally across 500+ exclusive artworks featuring legends like Banksy, Basquiat, and Picasso, thanks to Masterworks.
After all, the Artprice100 Index outpaced even the S&P 500 from 2000 to 2024.
Masterworks does the heavy lifting from acquisition to sale. Past sales delivered net returns like 14.6%, 17.6%, and 17.8%.*

"Austin adopts new homeless strategy plan, but leaders aren't sure of the cost" via KUT – Austin city leaders have approved a new strategic plan to address some of the issues people experiencing homelessness face.
David Gray, the city’s homeless strategy officer, said it will act as a road map for addressing homelessness over the next two years. The plan was crafted with more than two dozen community partners and includes adding shelter beds to the system, opening two centers that help coordinate services and increasing collaboration with community partners.
“If we want to get people out of our abandoned buildings and out of parks and greenbelts, we need more beds to put them in, and we need more spaces to bring those people inside," Gray said. “And that is exactly why our plan touches on adding more shelter beds, enhancing rapid rehousing and permanent supportive housing service delivery and boosting our navigation centers.”
Tony Carter said those are the kinds of services that could help get him and keep him in housing. Since 2019, Carter has been in and out of homeless camps and rapid rehousing all while trying to hold down a job. (KUT)
"Texas State professor claims university is firing him for a speech made in 2024" via KEYE – A Texas State University professor alleges he is being wrongfully terminated from his position after online backlash over an off-campus speech he made nearly two years ago.
In a lawsuit against Texas State leadership, philosophy professor Idris Robinson claims he was placed on administrative leave in June 2025 after a video surfaced online of a 2024 presentation he gave at an anarchist event in North Carolina titled, "Strategic Lessons from the Palestinian Resistance.”
Robinson was placed on leave after clips of the speech were shared by an Instagram account, accusing him of inciting violence.
"This is not academic freedom. This is incitement to violence. Texas State University must act," the post read.
The lawsuit claims that soon after he was placed on leave, he was notified that his contract would not be renewed with the university and that his employment would end in May 2026.
"At no point did he encourage or direct anyone to engage in violence," the motion claims. (KEYE)

"Suspect arrested in connection to Sunday homicide near Mueller" via KEYE – Austin police arrested a suspect in connection to Sunday's homicide near Mueller.
APD says that 37-year-old Clemente Garcia was arrested on Tuesday in the 7100 block of Ed Bluestein Boulevard on unrelated felony warrants for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Possession of Firearm by Felon.
Garcia is accused of murdering 47-year-old Nicholas Zarate on Sunday near 4700 Loyola Lane.
APD officers responded to the scene after receiving calls reporting a disturbance with possible gunshots.
Police responding to the scene found a man lying on the ground with injuries "incompatible with life," that man later identified as Zarate.
Investigators had initially stated that the suspect fled the scene on foot.
Garcia is charged with first-degree murder. Police are investigating the incident as Austin's 16th homicide of the year. (KEYE)
