"Here’s how APD will handle ICE warrants now" Austin American-Statesman's Austin Sanders – Austin Police officers are now barred from arresting or detaining a subject on the sole basis of a noncriminal warrant issued by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to an Austin Police Department memo released Thursday.
The change follows public scrutiny over the department's lack of clear guidance on how officers should handle "administrative warrants" from federal immigration officials. Unlike criminal warrants, administrative warrants are not signed by a judge and are not legally binding on local law enforcement agencies.
The scrutiny erupted in January, when an Austin woman and her child were deported after an Austin officer contacted ICE upon discovering an administrative warrant for the woman.
"Police say 19 people shot in 6th Street shooting; release video, 911 calls" Austin American-Statesman's Katey Psencik, Kiah Collier – Austin police say 19 people shot in 6th Street shooting; release video Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis watches footage from a parked vehicle near the scene that shows the suspected gunman during a press conference on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at APD headquarters about the release of audio and video footage from Sunday morning’s mass shooting on West Sixth Street in Austin.
The scope of Sunday’s mass shooting on West Sixth Street widened Thursday, with Austin police announcing that 19 people were shot — a higher number than previously reported that includes the gunman — though the death toll remains at four.
Davis said at a news briefing Thursday that two of the victims are still hospitalized with one in critical condition. Two victims died at the scene Sunday, and a third died Monday of his injuries. Officers fatally shot the gunman. During the briefing, Davis presented audio recordings, police radio traffic and multiple videos tied to the shooting, offering the most detailed public account yet of how the violence unfolded.
"Austin 6th Street shooting: Divorce filings claim suspect's 'cruel treatment' against ex-wife" via FOX 7 Austin – A 2022 divorce filing in Bexar County is giving more details about the man accused of killing three people and injuring 13 others in a shooting at a downtown Austin bar over the weekend.
The filing accuses shooting suspect Ndiaga Diagne of "cruel treatment" towards his ex-wife, with the divorce resulting in him losing custody of his two children.
Diagne's ex-wife filed for divorce in March 2022, almost ten years after the couple had married. The filing shows that the couple had not been living together since October 2019.
Under grounds for divorce, his ex-wife claimed that Diagne was guilty of "cruel treatment toward [her] of a nature that renders further living together insupportable."
In a response letter filed with the court, Diagne said he "totally disagree[d] and quite frankly [felt] insulted by the many false statements in the filing" and that he "categorically reject[s] her many lies."
"Social media believed to be tied to Austin shooter is full of antisemitic, anti-Christian, misogynistic posts" via CBS News – The attacker who gunned down revelers at a bar in Austin, Texas, over the weekend appears to have posted antisemitic, anti-Christian and misogynistic posts in the year and a half leading up to the deadly shooting, according to law enforcement sources in Texas. Three people were killed and more than a dozen others wounded in the rampage early Sunday, one day after the U.S. and Israel struck Iran.
The X account investigators believe is linked to the gunman was created in October 2024 and its most recent post is from December. A law enforcement source briefed on the investigation said the gunman had previously posted pro-Iranian messaging, pro-Islam and anti-Christian comments, but there were no posts found so far indicating his plans or intentions to attack. Last April, when tensions between Israel and Iran were spiking, one post read: "THE ISLAMIC REVOLUTION IS ETERNAL … you Zionist and islamophobes can be angry all you want but you can't do a damn thing about it no matter what."

"Human agent to blame for Waymo robotaxi illegally passing an Austin school bus" Austin American-Statesman's Karoline Leonard, Keri Heath – A U.S. safety agency’s investigation has found that on at least one occasion, a human remote assistance agent directed a Waymo robotaxi to illegally pass a stopped school bus in Austin while students were boarding.
The National Transportation Safety Board released a preliminary report on its investigation into Waymo after its driverless vehicles reportedly passed stopped Austin school buses more than 24 times since the start of the school year in August.
The preliminary report describes a Jan. 12 incident when a westbound Austin Independent School District bus was stopped about 7:55 a.m. in the 1700 block of East Oltorf Street.
A Waymo robotaxi, which was traveling in the opposite direction, stopped for the school bus.
"José Garza: Garza: APD officers are heroes, no charges" Austin American-Statesman's Austin Sanders – Jose Garza issued a statement Tuesday responding to rumors circulating online that he would seek criminal charges against the three Austin Police officers who fatally shot a man early Sunday as he was engaged in a deadly mass shooting outside of a downtown bar.
"These officers are heroes, and it should go without saying that my office is not seeking any charges and would not seek charges," Garza said in the release. "The accounts to the contrary are false, intentionally false, and are being peddled for obvious political purposes."
