"F.B.I. Investigating if Shooting at a Bar in Austin Has Terrorism Connection" via The New York Times – A shooting that killed two people and injured 14 others at a downtown Austin bar popular with University of Texas students rocked the Texas capital early Sunday morning and is being investigated by the F.B.I. as a potential act of terrorism.

Gunfire broke out shortly before 2 a.m. on Sunday after a gunman who was driving a large S.U.V. passed in front of the bar, Buford’s, and opened fire from his vehicle. The bullets struck patrons outside of the bar and on its patio, local officials said at a Sunday news conference.

The shooter then drove to a nearby street, parked and left his car, and began shooting at passers-by with a rifle, the authorities said. He walked toward an intersection, where he was shot and killed by the police.

The Austin Police Department identified the suspected shooter Sunday evening as Ndiaga Diagne, a 53-year-old man.

"Three victims identified in deadly Texas bar shooting FBI says could have terrorism links" via BBC – Authorities have identified the three people fatally shot outside a bar in Austin, Texas when a gunman opened fire in the early hours of Sunday.

Ryder Harrington, 19, and Savitha Shan, 21, died in the shooting outside a bar popular with University of Texas students, police said. Authorities announced on Monday that third victim, Jorge Pederson, 30, had also died.

More than a dozen people were injured in the shooting, including some who remain in critical condition.

The alleged gunman, Ndiaga Diagne, was shot and killed by police. The FBI said it was looking into a potential "nexus of terrorism" link to the war in Iran, among other possibilities.

After responding to calls of an active shooter at around 02:00 local time (08:00 GMT) on Sunday near Buford's bar in Austin, police said they shot and killed the suspect.

Diagne was a naturalised American citizen born in Senegal, according to the BBC's US partner CBS News.

"Waymo robotaxi blocks EMS ambulance responding to Austin mass shooting" Austin American-Statesman's Karoline Leonard – Waymo is under new scrutiny in Austin after one of its robotaxis blocked an ambulance responding to the mass shooting on West Sixth Street.

In a viral video posted after the shooting — which began just before 2 a.m. Sunday and left three dead and 14 injured — a Waymo robotaxi is seen blocking an Austin-Travis County EMS ambulance as the driverless vehicle attempts a U-turn and gets stuck crosswise across the street.

The video, posted on TikTok by Austin Realtor Matthew Turnage, shows the Waymo blocking the street with the ambulance inching closer. The Waymo moves forward a tad before freezing.

People can be heard shouting at the robotaxi to “go!” with one person saying, “This is why we shouldn’t have self-driving cars.”

"Owner of Austin bar attacked during mass shooting releases statement" KVUE's None – The owner of Buford's bar on West Sixth Street in Downtown Austin had this message for victims, their families and law enforcement.

The owner of the West Sixth Street Bar that was attacked just before 2 a.m. on Sunday has released a statement following the tragedy.

Bob Woody, owner of Buford's bar in Downtown Austin, gave his condolences to the victims and their families and praised law enforcement for their quick response to the shooting.

Here is the full statement:

"I would like to give my condolences to all the families affected by this tragedy. I cannot explain the sorrow we feel or imagine the pain these folks are going through.

To the families of the victims, my thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Thank you to Mayor Watson and Chief Davis for their leadership, and for keeping everyone informed so quickly.

To the first responders: You saved lives. You arrived in under a minute and placed yourselves at risk to stop the terrorist. Your swift and courageous actions saved so many.

This city is proud of the selfless actions by all first responders.

I have been in communication with APD, FBI, and TABC, all have been helpful and very supportive.

Wednesday, I will have a debriefing with my staff The FBI will provide grief counseling services for them. I’m very thankful for this.

Once again, my heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragedy."
