"Austin couple donates $100 million to support UT, MD Anderson medical center" KUT's None – A pair of Austin residents have donated $100 million to the University of Texas at Austin’s planned academic medical center. The gift is one of the largest in UT Austin’s history, according to university representatives.

The new medical center is set to include a hospital focused on complex and serious conditions and a location of MD Anderson Cancer Center.

The donation came from venture capitalist Tench Coxe, who is known for his involvement with the chipmaker Nvidia and is a part-owner of Austin FC, and his wife, Simone Coxe, who works with several nonprofits. Coxe said they were motivated to support the project after watching a friend travel all the way to Houston to receive cancer care.

“I hope in 25 years people say that UT is one of the great medical centers in the world, and it's benefiting the whole community,” Tench Coxe said in a video shared by UT.

While it was initially announced that UT would build the new medical center in downtown Austin at the site of the former Frank Erwin Center, the UT Board of Regents said in November that it was also considering a separate location.

APD says the shooting happened on Jan. 12 at 10:21 p.m. at the Capitol Crossing Apartments located at 1700 Teri Road.

When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot and also had other injuries.
Life-saving measures were administered at the scene and the victim was taken to a local hospital. He is expected to be okay.

The suspect fled the area before officers arrived and, despite a search, the suspect was not located.

The case remains under investigation and no arrested have been made.

"Austin police arrest 4 after ICE protest blocks downtown streets" Austin American-Statesman's Dante Motley – After a day of largely peaceful protests across Austin on Saturday — where hundreds of people marched through the streets to protest Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis — police arrested four people on charges of obstruction after a downtown demonstration escalated, according to authorities.

Earlier in the day, several hundred people gathered outside Austin City Hall as part of a protest related to the demonstration over the weekend. Organizers announced plans to continue biweekly demonstrations at 11 a.m. every two weeks. The Austin Police Department said in a statement that it worked closely and successfully w...

"Hearing date set to clear names for 4 wrongfully accused of Yogurt Shop Murders" via KVUE – A hearing is now set to clear the names of four men who were wrongfully accused of Austin's Yogurt Shop Murders.

The Travis County District Attorney’s Office announced there will be a hearing on Feb. 19.

Four teenage girls died in the murder at a North Austin yogurt shop on Dec. 6, 1991: Jennifer Harbison and her sister, Sarah Harbison; Eliza Thomas; and Amy Ayers.

The quadruple murder had a significant impact on the growing city of Austin and left many hungry for answers for decades.

Last year, police used DNA evidence to link a man named Robert Eugene Brashers to the murders. Brashers died by suicide in 1999.

But before Brashers was identified as the killer, four men were charged with the murders: Michael Scott, Robert Springsteen, Maurice Pierce and Forest Welborn. Two of them went to prison before their cases were overturned. The other two never went to trial.

Now, the Travis County district attorney is taking steps to offici...
